French Animation - Buddy Task

Hello Bloggers!
A couple of weeks ago on a Wednesday, we continued on with our French learning, the task was to either create a video of you and your buddy or get into buddy's and create another french animation, I chose to go with my friend Sienna and we created another French animation. This animation has 3 different characters, Daddy Pig, Shrek, and a Whale. This animation took around 30 minutes to complete and we both think that it turned out well. Do you know any French? Do you know what any of these sentences mean?  Please leave me some feedback and maybe even check out one of my other posts and leave feedback on some of those. Blog you later!

French Animation

Salut Bloggers! Are you excited for the holidays? I know I am!
This week for the Wednesday before the tech task we started learning french! We started off learning some of the basics, then we moved on to the task, we had a choice of doing either a french animation or making a communicational video with a friend, I chose to do the animation with 2 different characters communicating and asking/ answering questions. My animation includes Shrek and Donkey and my characters, they ask things like: What's your name? How old are you? And where are you from? All in French! This took around 45 minutes to 1 hour to complete and I think it looks pretty good. Can you speak French? Can you translate any of these sentences? Please leave me some feedback and maybe even check out one of my other posts and leave feedback on some of those. Blog you later!

Ocean Destruction art

Kia Ora Bloggers! What have you been getting up to in lockdown?
This week was the first full week of online school, Monday to Thursday we had Literacy and Maths meetings but today (Friday) we had no meeting and had the inquiry tasks to do. The task I chose to do today was the Sidewalk chalk art task, as you can probably tell this was not done on a sidewalk and done on a piece of paper the reasoning for this was just because the sidewalk was a bit too wet so I just drew it on a piece of paper. The drawing isn't the best but I think I did alright. Do you know what the meaning of the drawing is? Please leave me some feedback and maybe check out some of my other posts. Blog you later!

Lockdown Inquiry Task

Kia Ora Bloggers! How is your lockdown?
When we were put into lockdown Marshland School decided to do online school starting on Thursday. Yesterday was the first day and it went quite well. Today there were different tasks to do and this is one of them, the task was to pick an inquiry task off the site and complete it. The task I chose was about overfishing in NZ, this has information about what species are becoming endangered from overfishing as well as what NZ fisheries are doing to try and help with overfishing. Do you know what overfishing does to the animals? Do you know any other ways fisheries are trying to help?
Please leave me some feedback and maybe check out some of my other posts. Blog you later!

Microplastics

Kia Ora Bloggers! Do you know what microplastics are?
Another task for the start of our inquiry this term was this task here, this task was to get into a group (mine was Molly, Sienna, and I) and we had to find the meaning of microplastics, get a fact about microplastics, and come up with some solutions for pollution in the ocean. This task was pretty fun and easy-ish to do, we got it done in one session. Can you come up with any solutions? Do you know any other facts?
Please leave me some feedback and maybe check out my other posts. Blog you later

Water Inquiry research

Kia Ora Bloggers! How was your week?
For the start of term 3 inquiry, we have been researching a bunch of different things to do with water, our first task was to get into buddies and research 3 words that were listed on a slide, My buddy was Sienna and we chose the words, waterways, groundwater, and microplastics. After we research these 3 words we had to put the research we did onto a canva or other form of presentation and get it printed out to go on the wall. That was our last step for this task and then we were finished with the first task and moved on. I think that we had good research and made the canva look pretty good. Did you know what any of these words meant before seeing this? Did the slide help you understand the definitions? Please leave me some feedback and maybe check out one of my other posts. Blog with you later!

Minecraft Waterways

Kia Ora bloggers! How has term 3 been so far for you?
This term the non-production group has started understanding this terms inquiry which is focussing on water, our first task was to get in buddies and research 3 words to do with waterways, catchment areas, and other water related things, I went with Sienna and the 3 words we chose were Microplastics, groundwater, and waterways. Once we had our 3 words researched we had to find a way to present our research, Sienna and I chose to do it on a canva with 4 different posters, one for each word along with a glossary for the other words to do with watersheds and catchment areas that had been included in the definitions. After this, we had finished our first task and moved onto our second task, this was to make a Minecraft world with a mountain, a river (preferably the waimak), a catchment area, village/town, the ocean (or a line saying that it is where the ocean is), and a way to get water that comes from the mountain, Sienna and I found a mountain leading to a river with a village next to it so we used this as our template for our watershed and just added a few things, we also had to put signs showing what everything was and then the last step was to take photos and put them onto a slide to show our work. I think that we did well at researching and making our world, it looked quite good and had good labeling.
Do you know what any of our 3 words mean? Do you know what a watershed is? Please leave me some feedback and maybe check out some of my other posts/ work. Blog you later!

Matariki Kite Art

Kia Ora Bloggers! Do you know what Matariki celebrates?
These past few weeks on Fridays we have been making some Matariki-themed kites. What we had to do for our design is a Taniwha in the middle and colorful background, I chose to do a simple Taniwha with the colors blue, (dark and light) Purple, Pink, and black for the eyes. Our task was to draw up a draft copy of what our design was going to be. After this, we had to get an A4 or A3 piece of paper and draw our kite size/ shape after this we had to fill in the taniwha with pastels and fill in the background with watercolor.
Have you ever made a kite? Please leave me some feedback and check out my other posts, Blog you later!

STEAM- Table Construction

Kia Ora Bloggers! How was your June 2021?
This week for Wednesday we went back to doing S.T.E.A.M work (steam stands for science, technology, engineering, arts, and maths) Our task today was to construct a sturdy table/ tower that was at least 15cm above the table using 10 sheets of newspaper and 1m of tape, our goal by the end was to be able to hold at least 1 textbook for 3 seconds. We had 25 minutes to construct and 5 minutes before that to come up with a plan and ideas how we would make the tower. In my group of 5, we had the idea to have a base plate with 6 supports in the middle holding up another thick plate on top, this design was going well but then we ran out of time and tape, we hadn't finished but we had to just go with it, when we went up it all fell apart and all came crashing down we had 30 seconds to quickly reconstruct our tower and what we ended up putting all of the supports inside each other as they were all different sizes and then we had made a tube that was very thick and ended 1 book and then the second one held for about 1/3 seconds and then all fell down.
I think that we had a good initial plan but our compromising was quite good and we're all proud of how much it held. What do you think of our design? Do you think that you could've come up with a better design? Please leave me some feedback and maybe check out some of my other posts. Blog you later!

Māori New year - Matariki Art

Kia Ora Bloggers, Do you know what the Meaning of Matariki is?

This past week in Toroa we have been working on some art, this art is based around Matariki.
Our process was first we had to make a sketch/ draft copy on a piece of A4 paper of our design, this had to include mountains and the Matariki stars after we drew our very first sketch we then had to turn the stars into swirls. After this, we had finished our sketch but had to reverse the image so it would be the right way when we flip it later, then the first step had finished so we moved onto the second step the foam, our task was to copy our design onto the foam and be very careful not to snap, poke through or slice the foam as we only had one piece if that broke we had no other chance, Our third step is what I'd say was the most fun one, The oil paint, this was a very fun step and what we had to do was get a roller with some paint on it and then just roll it onto our foam, we got to as many colors as we wanted ( I chose to use two ) and then we flipped it onto a piece of A3 paper and got a clean roller and rolled it onto the back to make sure it was on correctly and the paint showed, Then we got to choose if we wanted to do another one, I chose to so I had to wash off the first coat of paint, make sure it was super dry and then do the process again ( This time I chose to do Purple and Balck). After I had done my second one I decided to not do another and snapped the foam in half so It wasn't mistaken for another person's one. So today our task was to first of all pick what one we wanted to frame and then to frame it, we had to cut a frame out of A3 card and then glue it to our Picture so we had a nice clean border. Then we were finished, I think I did quite a good job on my design and I like how the colors blend into each other. What I probably would've done differently is make the indents a bit more visible because you can't really see them and maybe added on a bit more paint because there are a few spots I missed. Do you know the names of all the Matariki stars? What mountains would you've done?

Please leave me some feedback on my post. Blog you later!

Touch Me Two - Senses Science Experiment

Kia Ora Bloggers, How has your week been so far?

Today we did another mini science experiment but this week it was about our senses, in particular touch. We got into pairs and then half of the class ( my half ) got given a kit, inside was a 15cm ruler, 4 colored pencils, 1 normal pencil, 1 rubber, 1 pencil sharpener, and one caliper (to poke). Our task was: There was a person A and a person B, Person A started off blindfolded while person B poked, we had to do it with 2mm, 5mm, 10mm, 15mm, and then 20mm we had to record how many pokes we felt from the caliper. After this, we finished and moved to the other person. From our data we collected, we think that 15-20mm were the times you mostly felt the 2 pokes and not the 1, with the 2mm we didn't feel the 2 pokes at all.
Have you ever done something like this? Do you know what a Caliper is? or have you ever used one?

Egg Experiment

Hey Bloggers!
On Wednesdays for tech, I am in the Afternoon group which means we leave at 12:00, so we have a session in the morning and we have started doing science! last week we did a moon experiment and this week we did an Egg Experiment, we had 25 minutes to create a plan and construct a safety protection for our egg. Our supplies were 3x sheets of A4 paper, 1x sheet of A5 paper ( a bit thicker ) 1x plastic bag, 2x lengths of sellotape, 1x meter of string, and last of all 1x egg, after the 25 minutes Mrs. Osborne dropped the eggs off the mezzanine floor in our Makerspace. Sadly our egg didn't survive but we were pretty happy with our design, it had lots of cushioning and we had wrapped it pretty well but it was a bit sad that it cracked.
Do you think it was a good design? Would you have designed it differently?
Please leave me some advice if anything is wrong. Blog you later!

Tidying up and Compensating Numbers

Hello Bloggers! How was your Holiday?

In Davies Maths ( My maths group ) This week we have been learning and working on how to tidy up and compensate numbers. In this blog post, I will be explaining how to tidy up numbers and also compensate them. To start this you have to first have 2 numbers for your equation e.g 132 + 76, you then have to either subtract or add to make one of the numbers a number ending in zero like 132 -2 + 130 now you have the tidy number you have to do the opposite to the other number like this, 76+ +2 = 78, now you have your new numbers the equation is simple, 130 + 78 instead of 132 + 76. Now for subtracting your numbers now are 132 - 76, now we can do 132 +8 to get 140 but with the 76 you have to add as well so, 76 +8 to get 84 now you have 140 - 84. So there is how to Tidy up and compensate your numbers to make an easier equation. Did you know how to do this before my post? Do you find it easy to do? It would be very helpful if you could leave me some of your feedback by leaving a comment. Blog you later!

Hundertwasser Art

Hello Bloggers! How was your 5 day Easter weekend?
In class, we have been doing some art that is inspired by the artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser, his style of art is like a kid's brain, colorful, different shapes, and no straight lines. Our task was to draw our design in pencil on a sheet that had all of the different things we would need like onion domes, houses, raindrops, floating eyes, and a hidden face, after that, we got to draw our sketch design on a normal piece of paper after we finished our sketch we got to do it on a thicker, bigger piece of paper and once we did that in pencil we got to go over it in vivid. Finally after vivid was the pastels, we had to use a mix of contrasting colors and analogous colors, we had a color wheel to go off but we could choose what colors we wanted.
Can you spot everything in my art? Can you find the hidden face?

Maori Weather Animation - Scratch

Kia Ora Bloggers! Do you know how to say the weather in Maori?
On Fridays in the mornings, there is a leader that comes in and he is our Kapa Haka teacher, but this week we didn't have Kapa Haka so the people that do Kapa Haka stayed behind at the hub and did what everyone else does when we are at Kapa Haka. Our task was to make an animation on scratch on the weather in Maori, for the weathers I chose wera, hot and hukapapa, snowy. The scratch was quite fun to make but it was a little bit confusing for the voices but I managed to fix it.
Have you ever used scratch before? Do you know how to say rainy in Maori?

Consider... A day at the Basketball court

Kai Ora Bloggers!
This is another Wednesday task and a part of K.O.S ( Keeping Ourselves Safe ). This task was, we got a piece of paper with a black and white comic that had one spot missing, we had to figure out what was happening in the comic then figure out what would happen in the last space, after that we had to draw in the people and what would happen I also added some writing of what they would have said, after that we were allowed to color in and be creative with the designs. This is my finished product as a photo.
What would you have done if you were in this situation?

My Pepeha

Kia Ora Bloggers!
Some of our work from the past week has been to write a Pepeha, a Pepeha is basically a speech about you, your family, mountain, river and your people/ ancestors Everyones Pepeha is different here is mine. There is also a video of my Pepeha on the last slide with photos and recording of me saying it. This was pretty easy to do because I have done a Pepeha before but I haven't done a video before so this was pretty fun.
Do you know your Pepeha? What is your Mountain or River?
Please give me some feedback by leaving a comment. Blog you later!

The British's POV on The Treaty of Waitangi

Kia Ora Bloggers!
This is another inquiry task that I have completed this week and it is The British POV ( Point Of View ) on the treaty of Waitangi. Our task was to write a script of their pov and then put your words into an app called voki, how voki works is you get 600 characters to write with and you can write something and then you copy and paste it into voki, you can also add a person, customize them and add in a background. This was kind of tricky to work out at first but once I got the hang of it it was pretty easy to write.
Have you ever used voki? Do you know any other fun facts about The treaty of Waitangi?

How The Europeans Got to New Zealand

Kia Ora Bloggers!

This week for inquiry we have been looking at when the Europeans first came to New Zealand. Our task was to create a map of how they got from the U.K to NZ, Then we had to write down their challenges and what happened on the boat, I have also included a picture of the boat.
Please leave me some feedback by leaving a comment.

What would you do in this situation?

Kia Ora Bloggers! What was your favourite part of your work this week?
On tech days ( Wednesdays ) I am in the afternoon group and in the morning we start by doing a daily quiz and then get into our work, this is part of my K.O.S Keeping ourselves safe, this poster is about what to do when your home alone and someone knocks on your door. To make this poster I used canva.
Do you go to tech at your school? Has this ever happened to you?

Toroas Wainui Camp 2021

Kia Ora Bloggers! What day did you start school? I started on Friday 5th February and then it was the weekend and Waitangi day and then Tuesday, and that was the day we went off to camp, and that is what this presentation is about. My favourite thing about camp was kayaking, there were heaps of activities but kayaking was the most enjoyable. Please leave me some feedback by leaving a comment.
